Having experienced an rsProcessingAborted Report Error as shown in the screenshot below during an upgrade process for 2011 to 2016, the author set about researching the causes for it and how they can be resolved.
The first thing was to try and establish the type, if any, of errors were being generated by the server. One other helpful way of doing this was through the use of tracing on the CRM server and diligently going through the log files. For this, you need to download the Report Definition Language (RDL) and open it in Visual Studio
On perm installations usually involve a significant element of authentication/ communication issues which can be handled by resolving Service Principle Name (SPN). Where SQL Server and the CRM Server are in different boxes, setspn commands could be used to Kerberos to resolve this, sample setspn -a http/CRMSERVERNAME DomainName\crm service account.
Standard tools to be used would be SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT) & Reporting Extensions.
